EFSA MAKES PUBLIC ALL DATA ON BIOTECH CORN NK603

Date : 16 January 2013 | Source : CBU

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has made publicly available all the scientific data used to clear the genetically modified (GM) corn NK603 developed by Monsanto Company which was linked to laboratory rat cancer by a controversial study published in Food and Chemical Toxicology by Séralini et al in September last year. EFSA earlier dismissed the study as scientifically flawed and challenged the researchers behind the controversial study to release all data that support their finding.

The EFSA said that it is allowing public access to all data related to the NK603 evaluation as part of its initiative toward greater transparency in risk assessment of GM foods. "Given the level of public interest, EFSA will make all data on genetically modified (GM) maize NK603 publicly available on its website today (14 January). While the Authority has already made available these data upon specific request on several occasions, any member of the public or scientific community will now be able to examine and utilize the full data sets used in this risk assessment," EFSA said in its official press release.

EFSA provided the data under a procedure for the release of information known as a Public Access to Documents request. Read the EFSA press release and download the NK603 data files at: http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/press/news/130114.htm
