AU AND UN LAUNCH ANTI-HUNGER PROJECT FOR THE HORN OF AFRICA

Date : 6 July 2016

"When you are hungry you don't have dignity," said FAO's Patrick Kormawa during the launch of a new project of the United Nations and African Union (AU) for hunger eradication in the Horn of Africa. The meeting and launch of the project titled Ending Hunger in the Horn of Africa: Moving from Rhetoric to Action was attended by experts from UN's Food and Agriculture Organization and AU held in Ethiopia.

According to Laila Lakosang, advisor for food and nutrition security of the AU, the project aims to alleviate hunger and poverty of about 30 million people who are hungry in the African sub-region. The project will provide a forum for governments, regional economic communities, development partners, and stakeholders to discuss, review, and develop new strategies on hunger eradication in the sub-region. Funds from international financial organizations will be collected to implement the activities, said Kormawa.
