AFDB AND FAO BOOST JOIN EFFORTS TO END HUNGER AND CREATE WEALTH IN AFRICA

The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) entered into an agreement to advance their joint initiatives towards catalyzing agriculture sector investments in Africa, which targets ending hunger and malnutrition and promote wealth throughout the continent.

 

According to their agreement, their target is to raise up to US$100 million in 5 years, which will support the joint partnership activities. The activities would aim to enhance the quality and impact of investment in food security, nutrition, social protection, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and rural development.

 

"FAO and the AfDB are deepening and broadening our partnership to assist African countries achieve the sustainable development goals. Leveraging investments in agriculture, including from the private sector, is key to lift millions of people from hunger and poverty in Africa and to ensure that enough food is produced and that enough rural jobs are created for the continent's growing population," said FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva.
