5TH INDONESIAN BIOTECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE CONCLUDED IN LOMBOK, INDONESIA

The 5th Indonesian Biotechnology Conference was conducted on 4-7 July 2012 in Lombok, Indonesia with 350 participants. The Regional Secretary of Nusa Tenggara Barat, H. Muhammad Nur welcomed the participants from 12 countries including Germany, Netherlands, the US, Canada, New Zealand, Korea, China, and England. 

 

The international conference covered three workshops that include Workshop Indosol (Indonesia Solanaceae), Workshop DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dients) and Workshop on Student Forum of NAIST (Nara Institute of Science and Technology).

 

The conference also featured the launching and signing of a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of Bio Channel TV Internet, as a medium to disseminate information on developments in biotechnology. The Indonesian Agribiotech Coalition, an organization that encourages participation of the public and private sectors, and the industry, was launched to enhance adoption and use of biotechnology in the country.

 

The event was concluded by passing a declaration creating the "Student Forum for Biotechnology" among six universities in the country. This successful event was  organized by the Indonesian Biotechnology Consortium in collaboration with University of Indonesia and University of Mataram.
